It all started with chocolate and a flight attendant who was too nice for her own good. I was traveling with homemade chocolates for a friend, but accidentally left them behind on the plane. She found them and was going to keep them—but being the kind person she is, she just couldn't do it. Instead of being a chocolate thief, we ended up talking for hours.

After that flight, we stayed in touch but didn't hang out. Then one day, when I was in California, she called me up and said, "Pack your bags—we're going to Hawaii. The flight leaves in a few hours."

I said "maybe," which in anyone else's book means "probably not happening." She was convinced I was going to flake. But something about her adventurous spirit was contagious.

I didn't flake. A few hours later, we were on a plane to Hawaii for our first real adventure together.

That spontaneous trip to paradise was just the beginning of a beautiful friendship that eventually convinced her to make the move to Austin—and the rest, as they say, is history!
